one big happy family!

Sunday sweet little Porter was baptized. The whole family came to town to celebrate and Sally, Porter’s grandmother, thought it would be a great opportunity for family photos. I love this candid shot of Dick, Porter’s grandfather, sneaking in a little kiss on his sweet little hand. Isn’t that just the way it is with babies?!?! With mine I took every opportunity I had to get in a kiss.

Here is Sally and Dick with all seven of their grandchildren.

I originally met Izzy, Sally’s grand-daughter (cute young girl with the red head-band) at her First Holy Communion. She’s the youngest of four! Staci, her mom is one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Rick is the oldest of Sally and Dick’s three children. I love this shot of him and Staci with the kids in the background. They have really good kids!

Here is Ryan with his sweet angel Lucy and his beautiful wife, Krissy. Lucy…isn’t that an adorable name? Fitting for such an adorable little girl.

I love that one-year-old point!

Becky and Mike with Mike’s parents and their dog Molly.

The whole family! What a nice group of people! Coming from a big family, I really enjoyed this photo session. Everyone was so accommodating and cooperative. They must really love Sally!

Thank you Dick, Sally and the rest of the gang! More to come…

we’ve got a fourth grader in the house!

mondays

Many people complain about Mondays. Believe me, I understand it. After a fun and relaxing weekend spending time with people you love, Mondays can be a rude awakening to obligations and boring routines. But I like Mondays. Mondays, for me, mean a fresh start. And boy, do I need one! Since posting my great success on ColorFUEL I have fallen off the healthy wagon and it is showing! It’s embarrassing! I am so thankful for Monday where I can renew my vow, once again to get fit…and hopefully stay that way. Unfortunately this is just one in a series of Mondays that I have made that very promise only to find myself on Tuesday enjoying cocktails and pizza.

This morning, during my run, without my headphones for distraction, I had time to think about today’s post. Needing accountability, I decided to post my goals and truthfully report my progress, Bridget Jones style…if I can be that witty. I am sure this is the boring stuff that Mondays are made up of to many of you which just reaffirms your distaste for the day but I am weird this way so read on if you like or move on…

Ultimate Goal: lose ten pounds by my 39th birthday, Nov. 6th

This week’s goals:

  • exercise (break a sweat) at least six days
  • follow my customized Colorfuel plan every day
  • no cheating on my diet…not even a Goldfish cracker (I stole this idea from my brother…among other things)
  • No vino…oh this is hard. No vodka, tequila, or bourbon either. Those who don’t drink probably think I am an alcoholic. Those who do are probably thinking “why?!?!?”

Because fresh starts don’t just apply to health and fitness I decided to add a few personal and professional goals as well:

  • prepare Nick’s Colorfuel meals for him each day
  • wake up 5:30 every morning and work until 7:00 (work ≠ facebook)
  • check email only three times daily…morning, noon and evening
  • actually put away the folded clean clothes into the drawers and not lie the piles next to my dresser…how lazy is that???

Okay, I think that is enough for now…don’t want to over do it. Here are today’s results so far:

Weight: 144

Goldfish Crackers: 4

Sweat: Yes

ColorFUEL meals: 5 (if I stick to my dinner as planned)

Alcoholic Beverages: none yet but it is only 4:00

Nick’s Meals: nope woke up late and without a plan…sorry Sweet-Cheeks

Email checks: several

Laundry Status: Two piles on the chair to be folded, one in the dryer and one in the wash.

tommy’s senior portrait

I received a call from Liz, who is a friend of Deb’s, whose children I photographed earlier this summer. I love referrals! Anyway, her son Tommy is a senior at Boise High and needs to have his photos taken early before getting his braces on. Isn’t he cute?!?!

Additionally, Liz wanted family photos of all three of her kids before her oldest daugter leaves for college. Lately I have been trying new games and techniques in my photo sessions to help people relax in front of the camera and to elicit some genuine and natural expressions. So with three teenagers, I thought I would ask them to play “Fling the Statue.” Or something like that. Anyway, the object is for the person who is “it” to spin the others by the hand. When they let go, that person has to hold the pose as long as possible. Whoever holds their pose longest wins. Anyway, all I have to say is these three “kids” were so awesome and nice to play along. I am sure, in the back of their minds they must have been thinking I had lost mine.

And although it didn’t go exactly as I was expecting it too. I think my goal was achieved, they seemed to have fun and I was able to get a few good, natural, shots.

This whole family has the most beautiful smiles!

Finally, Liz wanted one with her boy…who is now practically a man. Even though Tommy, like most high school seniors, doesn’t love having his picture taken, he went along so politelty and graciously. In addition to being cute he is also really nice. What a great family! More to come Liz…

allison & ryan

Allison is the one of the co-founders of ColorFuel, a “diet” program that I had blogged about earlier this year. She is also a trainer and co-owner of A2O Fitness. Anyway, she and Ryan have been married 15 years and wanted to commemorate their anniversary in photos. Jenn, her partner had given her a gift certificate from me and so yesterday, she cashed it in. When I had first met Allison and become Facebook friends with her, knowing Jenn had purchased a gift certificate for a session with me, I got nervous when I saw that the blurb under her profile pic read, ”I hate having my picture taken.” Oh no! I personally cannot understand how someone as pretty as Allison would hate having her picture taken but I can only hope this session wasn’t too bad.

Allison and Ryan are parents to two very well-behaved pups, Mickey and Sage. It seems to me, Allison is willing to tolerate pretty much anything, even having her picture taken, in the company and arms of her sweet family.

During our session yesterday and then again today, as I went through the photos, I can hardly believe these two have been married 15 years! First, they look way too young (they must have had to have written permission from their parents), and second, they are so playfully affectionate…like newlyweds!

Thank you Allison! More to come…
