boise lifestyle photographer: luke is six!!!

I can’t believe my “baby” is six! He is the age Jay was when he was born and all I could think about was that some day he would be six and that I knew it would happen in a flash…and here we are!

Luke’s FAVORITE color until just recently was green! So everything he owns, basically, is green. But just within the past few months it has changed to red & black or blue & black. I think he thinks black is cool.

His favorite heroes are ninjas! He is completely infatuated with ninjas. In fact, that is what he wants to be when he grows up.

His favorite toys are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He watches the shows, now (thanks to his birthday) owns all of the action figures, and can sing the theme-song word for word. His favorite book is about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Luke’s favorite song is Diamonds by Rihanna and he really does not like The Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys…it freaks him out and so insists I change the station.

He always wants to impress his brother. He just learned how to roller skate and once he figured it out the first thing he said was “I wish Nick could see me now!”

He’s sweet, and gentle and overall a really good kid. All the kids in his class like him and several of the girls parents have mentioned to me how much they appreciate that he “protects their daughters from the mean boys.” I asked him about that, and he just shrugged and said “I don’t think I protect them…I am just nice to them.”

His favorite food is pasta with just olive oil & salt. He’ll tolerate raw veggies and loves all fruit but he definitely has a sweet tooth and can’t get enough of the goldfish crackers! He’s a snacker…always has been.

He is learning how to read and write and is great with numbers! He’s not really into art but his teacher did point out his self-portrait in class…he had drawn himself covered in big muscles and added armpit hair! So funny, Jay at his age, didn’t really know about armpit hair or care but I guess when you have a big brother who is about to enter into puberty what they care about, you care about.

He loves all animals and prays to God for EVERYTHING! I love that.

He has a quick wit and a fun sense of humor and can totally get a joke and laugh at himself…I’d like to think he gets that from me.

As opposed to his brother who is a rule follower, Luke will look for the loopholes in the rules. He knows that unequivocally, he is not allowed to call anyone “stupid.” So he asked, what about the police, can they call bad-guys “stupid?” My response was that it still is not okay, not even bad guys should be called names. A few days later he asked; “If someone’s NAME is Stupid, then can I call him Stupid?” It was really HARD to respond without laughing but the only thing I could answer was ”yes…I suppose so, if that is in fact, his name…”

I could go on and on about my little guy…who is not so little anymore but the bottom line is I love him with all of my heart and am so very blessed to be his mom. Happy Birthday Luke!!!

I love this blog! Every time I am around Luke I have a great time! If anyone can be a ninja when they grow up it would be him!

boise lifestyle photographer: sweet baby charlotte

I have been photographing this family since before child number two, who arrived two years ago…remember this? After two boys they just welcomed, with love, their first baby girl. She’s beautiful…

Although the boys know me pretty well and know that whenever I see them I will most likely be taking their photo…they hide!

Kind of…

I found Ryan.

Bryce? Oh where Oh where can he be???

Aaaah…there’s that sweet smile!

And big brother too…I have NO idea what I said to make him laugh…that smile was totally worth whatever it was…something silly, I’m sure.

What’s the best way to get a family photo with two rambunctious boys and a newborn baby? STORY TIME!!! I love the photo of Alex & Sean (before kids) reflected in the mirror…oh how life has changed!

When I took this photograph and while I edited it, I noticed the band Sean wears around his wrist. It isn’t the first one I have photographed. The others were during the return of the Bold Tiger Squadron a few months ago…all but one. They (all aircrew and spouses in both squadrons) wear this in memory of their fallen hero, Dee Piston Imlay.  Every time I photograph this bracelet I think of him. His wife, on her Facebook page describes herself as the preserver of his legacy. I didn’t know him but I think he would like knowing life continues in love, for family and for our country.

I love this photo of Alex with her baby girl. Her protective and ever-present companion by her side.

While photographing Alex I heard this commotion going on in the other room, the lifestyle photographer in me had to check it out…so glad I did!!! While waiting for their chicken nuggets too cook, Dad got a little exercise and kept the troops happy with some airplane rides! I’ve got to hand it to him, that takes skill!

Meanwhile, back in the other room…aaaaaahhh….

Time for naked baby shots with Daddy…you know, those adorable photos of the naked baby in their daddy’s arms…

Wait for it…

Not gonna happen…baby wants swaddling and warmth!!! I don’t know how those designer baby stylists do it! But this is real life and this is what I do…

A bitter-sweet goodbye…I know this will be my final session with this family for a while, because as is life in the Air Force, they will be moving soon. But another truth I have come to depend on, some day, perhaps, they may move back. I loved getting this part in their lives and wish them nothing but love, joy, peace and adventure in their next chapters….
